Characteristics And Efficacy Of Adlerian Therapy Essay
Characteristics and Efficacy Adlerian therapy was founded by Alfred Adler, a physician turned psychotherapist. Adlerian therapy was originally called individual psychology (n.d. , Adler University). Adlerian therapy or individual psychology principles are based on the client being looked at ââ¬Å"holistically, as a unified personality, or ââ¬Ëindividualââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ , how a clientââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"social environmentâ⬠influenced ââ¬Å"personality developmentâ⬠, how a clientââ¬â¢s choices influence their lives rather than how their past effect their future, what types of ââ¬Å"social interestâ⬠and ââ¬Å"prosocial behaviorâ⬠are influencing ââ¬Å"psychological healthâ⬠, ââ¬Å"purposefulâ⬠, ââ¬Å"goal orientedâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"meaningfulâ⬠behaviors, and understanding the clientââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"subjective realityâ⬠. Adlerian therapy emphasizes the need for social interest or ââ¬Å"communityâ⬠. The social life consists of ââ¬Å"communal lifeâ⬠, â⠬Å"workâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"love relationshipsâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Self-acceptanceâ⬠, ââ¬Å"spiritualityâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"parentingâ⬠were added later (Gehart, pg. 96, 2016). The interventions of Adlerian Therapy include ââ¬Å"parenting styleâ⬠, ââ¬Å"family constellation and birth orderâ⬠, ââ¬Å"early recollectionsâ⬠, ââ¬Å"basic mistakesâ⬠, ââ¬Å"organ inferiority or physical weak pointsâ⬠, ââ¬Å"dream analysisâ⬠, ââ¬Å"the questionâ⬠, ââ¬Å"psychodynamic formulationâ⬠, ââ¬Å"life tasks and social interestâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"DSM Diagnosisâ⬠(Gehart, pg. 102-107, 2016).
